Welcome to Periyar Ambedkar Thoughts Circle of Australia: Championing Equality, Diversity, and Social Justice
At Periyar Ambedkar Thoughts Circle of Australia (PATCA) we are deeply inspired by the legacies of social reformers like Periyar E.V. Ramasamy, Maniammai, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Jyotirao Phule, Savitribai Phule and Fatima Sheikh We dedicate ourselves to addressing caste discrimination, promoting social justice, supporting women's rights, combating intolerance, and showcasing the rich religious and cultural spectrum of the Indian heritage. Our goal is to foster a socially cohesive and united Australian community where every individual, especially those from communities affected by caste, feels included and appreciated.
Policy and Political Advocacy:
Inspired by teachings of Ambedkar, Periyar, PATCA seeks to transform social equity and justice from mere ideals into tangible realities within our society.
By shaping public policies at both state and federal levels, we strive to break down systemic obstacles that uphold caste discrimination and social exclusion.
Through our advocacy we seek to partner with government agencies, policy makers and politicians across local, state, federal levels and foster policies that are inclusive, ensuring dignity, respect, and equality for everyone, particularly for those from marginalised and caste-oppressed groups.
Community Engagement and Education:
PATCA aims to engage the wider Australian and Indian diaspora through community initiatives, cultural events, and online workshops to deepen our shared understanding of the historical and systemic discrimination faced by caste-oppressed groups, the underappreciated diversity of the Indian cultural fabric, and raise awareness of the marginalisation and erasure of the rich cultural traditions and religious practices of caste-oppressed communities.
By promoting dialogue, understanding and celebrating the rich cultural and traditional tapestry of caste-oppressed communities, we seek to combat social exclusion and construct a more inclusive and cohesive Australian society, where diversity is celebrated, and every individual feels a genuine sense of belonging.
Legal Advocacy:
In its legal advocacy efforts, PATCA fervently champions for the inclusion of caste as a protected attribute in Australia's state and federal legislations to defend those harmed by caste discrimination and social exclusion.
We stand resolute in our commitment to the rights of the marginalised, giving voice to the voiceless and fiercely safeguarding their rights.
Through our legal endeavours, we aspire to cultivate a society where justice is not merely an ideal but a lived reality for everyone.
