Campaigns and Success Stories:
PATCA has a distinguished history of conducting consultations, particularly focusing on the rights and challenges faced by caste-oppressed communities, advocating for a society that fully embraces and values its diverse cultural, traditional, and historical fabric, including the perspectives of those from caste-oppressed groups. In 2021, PATCA members actively participated and led a workshop at the Greens NSW State Delegate Conference, addressing the extensive and severe impacts of caste discrimination within caste-oppressed communities in Australia. This effort led to the formal acknowledgment by the Greens NSW of caste as a form of intersectional racism in their Anti Racism and Multicultural Policy. You can access the policy here One of PATCA's significant milestones in 2021 was submitting over 30 proposals to the Australian Human Rights Commission, advocating for the recognition of caste discrimination. This initiative contributed to the inclusion of caste as a form of intersectional racism in the Australian Human Rights Commission's National Anti-Racism Framework Scoping report. The report can be accessed here. (see page 73 -74) In 2023, PATCA submitted proposals to the NSW Law Reform Commission to include caste as a protected attribute in the review of NSW’s Anti-Discrimination Act. The details of PATCA’s submission are available here. Additionally, in 2023, PATCA approached the Department of Home Affairs with a submission aimed at enhancing the recognition, needs, and aspirations of caste-oppressed communities, to promote inclusivity and foster a sense of belonging among these groups in Australia. Furthermore, PATCA’s advocacy efforts in 2023 led to a representation in the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly, prompting Greens MLA Andrew Braddock to deliver a speech on the importance of researching and addressing caste discrimination. The speech is available here.
